I make a range of framed one-off and limited unlimited edition paper cuts; I also make small books and paper products for sale which combine various different processes, including a mix of hand making, bookbinding, hand painting, machine cutting and stitching. Everything is made by me in my studio in remote and lovely Northumberland. I design and print all of my packaging myself too - I love stationery! Most of my small-scale work is available to purchase online from www.madebyhandonline.com, and there are examples of my work in the gallery on this page. If there’s anything I haven’t got in stock, please get in touch and I can let you know how long it will take to make more! I also work to commission on unique pieces too, both papercuts and books, and there’s more information under the ‘commissions’ tab to the left.
Most of my work can be produced to commission - I’m very happy to work with clients to adapt existing pieces, or create a unique handmade book or papercut. Many people choose a favourite phrase as their starting point, to reflect a person or place or occasion. I usually start the process with drawing - where paper cuts are commissioned, I draw the whole thing up first for my client to review before settling down with a scalpel. The cost will obviously very much depend on the piece, but as a rough guide, a 50cm square unique paper cut will be in the region of £650. Here’s a little sample of some of the illustration work I’ve done - this includes a couple of projects for books and several pieces for the Northumberland National Park, for a series of awards and posters.
